I quit!

Journal Entry: Wed May 14, 2008, 3:58 PM
  • Mood: Lazy
  • Listening to: Internet Radio
I quit my job yesterday, but my last day isn't going to be until June 13th. There's not much to say other than I simply hated the job. It was graphic design, not illustration and this company -loves- copyright infringement, which makes me mad on so many levels. They wouldn't pay for fonts, nor software. It pissed me off since they bloody well can afford to run their business legitimately... So I'm fed up of being their "rip this off for us" artist.

I'm taking the summer off to enjoy an actual summer. I haven't had summer vacation in 10 years (literally). I plan on putting a better portfolio together and brushing up on my drawing skills. (Since I&D taught me how to trace, I've completely lost my ability to draw from life >.>;) I don't plan to work at all. (At least the nice thing about working full time for a year is that now I have tons of cash to feed my laziness.)

I've put about 6000$ aside for a trip to Europe. I can't wait. I'm having a tough time deciding where I want to go. Italy, Germany and France for sure... I wish someone could come with me and cross off "Go to Europe" on my "things to do before I die" list.

Also, my job wants to call me occasionally for freelance work once I'm gone. The benefit to this is that I can charge them a week's salary for one job. I bet I can even get away with charging them more, because I obviously know exactly what they want, and they won't have to tweak it later on...

Hopefully I'll get some face-painting gigs this summer.... Those pay so well, it's not even funny. (I can wrestle up about 50$ - 100$ in one hour depending on the event.) I've considered getting a license to setup shop in the Old Port... But I think it might be too late for this year.

I can't wait till my sweet sweet freedom...

I updated the Adobe Illustrator Comic and Manga Template. Check out the new version. It's backwards compatible through CS. I've also modified the American Standard Size and included an American actual print size.

Thanks for downloading it.
